Pupils joining at Year 7 and Year 9 take GCSE in Year 11. They then progress to A-Level in the Sixth Form. KPS also admits pupils at Year 12 directly into the Sixth Form.

From entry at either Year 7 or Year 9, pupils follow a broad traditional syllabus which includes English, maths, the sciences, modern foreign languages (including Mandarin Chinese), geography, history, classical civilisation and religious studies as well as art, design & technology, computing, PE, drama and music.

This is supplemented by 4 periods of sport each week. During Year 9, GCSE subjects are selected for study in Years 10 and 11. The core subjects include maths, English and science and the remaining subjects are selected from option blocks. Pupils will typically study 9 or 10 subjects at GCSE level.

Moving to the Sixth Form, our pupils will generally select three A-Level subjects, in some cases a fourth may be added. There is also an opportunity to add a non-examined elective subject such as Mandarin in order to help access the programmes of study which we offer at Shanghai Jiao Tong University at the end of the Lower Sixth.

With its own dedicated Sixth Form Centre, KPS teaches A-Level and prepares for university entrance in a specialist environment, with no distractions from having to cater for younger age groups on the same site. Our sixth formers have a tailored timetable more conducive to A-Level study and our Sixth Form teachers are a team of true specialists, with several A-Level chief examiners and textbook authors among their number.
