Mr J Peter Middleton welcomes you to Kensington Park School, an academically selective independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 11 to 18.

The pages of a website can only hint at what a school is really like; it is the people and the relationships that matter more than glossy pictures or expansive text. I hope, however, that these pages give you a flavour of Kensington Park School and of the purpose, drive and sheer enjoyment of a KPS education; nothing though could replace a personal visit to our school.

KPS is a small coeducational day and boarding school which is set in the heart of cosmopolitan central London. Its small class sizes ensure that we are a friendly, welcoming and academically purposeful school; where the individual can excel within a community; where pastoral care is paramount and the warm relationships between students and teachers are the heart of the tremendous achievements of our girls and boys.

I am passionate about enabling young people to fulfil their potential and students at KPS should be excited, challenged and inspired, as well as unconstrained by preconceived expectations. Our staff will support the development of each individual child so that students acquire confidence in their own ability and in the process discover their strengths, recognise their weaknesses and make the most of their talents. In recent months, the individual and personal support that our teachers can give has been amplified as staff have proven the school’s ability to deliver this exceptional education, even at a distance through ‘virtual KPS’ during lockdown.

I believe that the excellence of academic and co-curricular provision are at the heart of an outstanding education and crucially that this is only realised if they are inextricably bound together by strong community values. The community at Kensington Park School is centred on each individual and values such as kindness, moral integrity, responsibility and a sense of service. At KPS we will build the shared values of decency, harmony and trust within our community so that they will endure within individuals when they leave our school.

I want our students to acquire the confidence to aspire and strive to become the best possible version of themselves; in doing so they will flourish and achieve goals which will exceed their dreams. In an increasingly results driven society, it can be easy to lose sight of the individual child and neglect the rounded and broad education that young people deserve and which will support them in becoming balanced and resilient adults. Here at KPS, we believe in the primacy of outstanding pastoral care and take every opportunity to deliver this – children learn best when they feel happy, safe and respected.

We are committed to preparing our students for the journey of life beyond Kensington Park School, which will be without the individual and focused support of teachers, tutors, pastoral staff, coaches and mentors. Transition through KPS is not simply ‘more of the same’, but rather it presents exciting new opportunities that stimulate aspiration, and in the process will ensure that the roots nurtured at each phase will provide confidence as they mature and ultimately give them the wings to fly when they leave. This is reflected in the twin sites that we operate with the Lower School at Bark Place and the Sixth Form at Queen’s Gate. This physical separation enables students in their A level years to start to become more independent and prepare for university and life beyond.

As a parent, I believe that the greatest gift that I can give my children is an outstanding education and I have no doubt that you are here today because you want the same for your children too. As a result, I am committed to ensuring that KPS provides only the very best education for your sons and daughters. Life at KPS is always a partnership between the child, his or her parents, and the school. We want parents to be part of this journey and you will be actively included in your child’s education. We will make sure that your sons and daughters are supported appropriately at every turn and that they feel comfortable, respected, safe and secure in their environment.

As students here, we want you to take an active role in your own education, and take responsibility for it, not simply allowing others to educate you.  From challenge and inspiration in the classroom to a vast range of different co-curricular activities, there is a huge breadth of opportunity available to you here. Our role is to help you to navigate these options, to make the most of every day, and to have a lot of fun along the way.

That is what we aspire to, and I hope that this introduction has provided you with a sense of our school, our vision for our students, and our values.  Please enjoy browsing the website, watching our video clips, and following our social media feeds to discover more about KPS.

Above all, I encourage you to come and see for yourselves: meet the boys and girls, meet the staff, and see the school in action. I look forward to welcoming you to Kensington Park School.
