We are delighted to announce that after an extensive search and a very strong list of applications, the Governing Board has appointed Mr Peter Middleton to become the new Headmaster of Kensington Park School. As an Oxford graduate, who is also completing his second Master’s degree, Peter is a prime example of a lifelong learner, with a commitment to education, continuous self-improvement and who sets high expectations for academic excellence.

Peter grew up in Somerset and was educated at Radley College before reading Chemistry at Oriel College, Oxford. He began his teaching career at Cheltenham College and moved to St Edward’s School, Oxford, where he was a Housemaster and was responsible for Prep School Liaison. He was subsequently appointed to Deputy Headship at Clifton College and since 2013 has been Principal at Welbeck College near Loughborough. He has led the school successfully through two excellent ISI inspections, developed a culture and relentless focus on academic standards and expectations, whilst ensuring that pupils' personal development has remained a top priority. We look forward to his arrival, being convinced that he has the necessary skills to drive innovation and academic success at KPS and lead our family community.

Peter said: “It is an honour and privilege to have been invited to be the new Headmaster of KPS. Parents have only one opportunity to give their children the best possible education – I am committed to working with parents, pupils and staff to ensure that Kensington Park School delivers an exceptional education, where ambition and scholarship are respected and highly valued, creativity is celebrated, diversity is embraced and where each individual is nurtured and challenged to become the best possible version of themselves; so that they leave having achieved goals and aspirations of which they could only have dreamed.”

Peter will join KPS in January 2021, therefore, to ensure continuity and minimal disruption during the transition period (from September 2020 until Peter’s arrival), Mr Stephen Mellor, our current Governor for Safeguarding, will be leading the day to day management of the School, supported by the senior management team, Mrs Elizabeth Emerton and Mr Sam Gosden, Mr Paul Pearce. Stephen has over 30 years of leadership experience in education, including five years in a headship position for a school in Surrey and was recently the Principal Adviser for Inclusion to West Sussex County Council.

Peter will be spending time in the School over the following months, starting with informal ‘Meet the Head’ sessions. Dates and times will be announced in the near future.

The Board would again like to thank Mr Paul Vanni for his dedication, vision, determination and splendid humour over the last 2 years in driving transformation and for successfully laying the foundations for our school.
