KPS Student Teagan Excels in British Ranking Foil Competitions

Having now officially moved into Juniors this season and with the fencing season well underway, Teagan Williams-Stewart (Year 11) has competed in three British Ranking Competitions. She achieved a silver at the Leon Paul Junior (U20) event, and bronze at both the British Fencing Junior Championships (U20) and the British Fencing U23 National Championships. The above results led to selection to represent GB at the Eden Cup an U20 Junior World Cup event held this past weekend at SportsDock on 2nd November 2019.  The event was attended by fencers from 37 countries, 189 men and 137 women.  Teagan fought well throughout the poules, dropping one fight out of six, which left her with a ranking of  12 after the poules.  Teagan received a bye into the last 64, where she then faced the Danish fencer.  Teagan defeated her 15-11 and moved through to the last 32.  She went on to fence the 52nd world ranked Singaporean and, despite putting up a good fight, was then defeated 15-7. Teagan's final result was 21st/137 and the only GB female to make the L32.

On Sunday 3rd November, the Leon Paul London Cup, which is a Senior Open, took place. Ranked 148 going into the competition, Teagan fought her way through the poules, dropping only one fight. This left her with a ranking of 17 after the poules and receiving a bye into the L64.  She fenced a GB fencer and won 15-5 moving her into the L32.  She then met a 22 year old Italian fencer.  In a very dynamic fight, Teagan was down 11-14, she brought the fight back to an even 14-14.  The last hit was given to the opponent.

Teagan's final result was 20th/120, one of only four Brits to make the L32.  The weekend results moves Teagan to 3rd in the Womens Junior (U20) foil rankings. She has also been a part of the ADP (Athlete Development Programme) for the past two years and recently joined the DiSE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) programme.

Teagan will compete this weekend at the Welsh Open (BRC) in Cardiff and has been selected to represent in her first overseas event for 2019 in Bucharest at the beginning of December. We congratulate Teagan on all of her success so far this season, and wish her the best of luck for the event in December.
