News just in! Our half term Sports report is here...

Written by Miss Farmer, Director of Sports

Since the start of the new academic year, we've been adapting to new ways of teaching and learning in every aspect of KPS life- nowhere more so than in the field of sport.

At Kensington Park School we tried our upmost to keep the autumn Sports, PE, Games and Co-curricular program as close to normal as possible, with a few adaptations that we believe have actually had some positive impacts for all KPS students.

Firstly, we have our brand new whole school membership at The Porchester, Everyone Active Gym, which has had every pupil from Year 7 to Year 11 experiencing gym inductions and working on a personal exercise program for the past 6 weeks. Every student has used this fantastic opportunity to develop their muscular strength, cardiovascular fitness and even harness new skills such as yoga and HITT training. Many of our sports partnership students have also started using the gym for Strength and Conditioning in order to improve in their elite pathway sports.

Yusef (Year 8) reminding us to space out in football in Kensington Gardens.

Equipment available to students at The Porchester Gym

During Games sessions, Years 7, 8 and 10 have been concentrating on skill development in netball and football, while Year 9 and Year 11 have been catching up on their summer sport with tennis. All sports have been adapted to adhere to new rules and regulations, however this has not stopped us in our efforts to keep active to refine and master techniques and tactics. Due to our small class-sizes we have been lucky enough to replace the missing inter-school fixtures with inter-house tournaments instead. So far, Tyburn is leading!

Co-curricular sports clubs have been up and running with great enthusiasm, including Eton fives, rock climbing, ice skating, running club and football club. One new Year 10 student, Athmaar, has been instrumental in using her volunteering section of the Duke of Edinburgh Award to offer a Girls Football club during lunchtimes, which has had a large uptake of students from all year groups joining and is gaining momentum every week. Well done Athmaar!

Overall, it has been a rewarding start to KPS Sport with the department feeling lucky to be back to work and grateful to all students in adapting to the new rules and procedures with maturity and a fantastic positive mental attitude. We look forward to the second half of the Autumn Term.
