Last term, year 2 sociology pupils attended Kingston Crown Court to witness a variety of court cases to support their studies in the A-Level module ‘Crime and Deviance’. With many pupils wanting to read Law at university, this was also a good opportunity for them to experience first-hand the criminal justice system in the UK.
Pupils were excited to be in a real court room and witness serious court cases. The case they spent the longest analysing was an illegal drug trafficking case. Students were able to apply their sociological knowledge and understanding about globalisation, differences in gender and crime, and the processes of the criminal justice system to a real-life situation.
This trip had a great impact on pupils, as they were able to relate their studies back to this case whilst learning new topics at school.
