Lord Dyson visits KPS

On Thursday 6th June, we were honoured to welcome Lord Dyson to Kensington Park School. Lord Dyson is one of the country's most distinguished judges; he was Master of the Rolls and Head of Civil Justice, the second most senior judge in England and Wales, from 2012 to 2016, and a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom from 2010 to 2012.

We were delighted to be joined for the evening by pupils and teachers from two local schools - Kensington Aldridge Academy and Hammersmith Academy.

Lord Dyson started his talk by outlining his career and path into law. He discussed the vast areas that law covers, from criminal, contract and commercial law, to environmental and family law, before moving on to the complexities and moral questions that arise when practising law.

To highlight these challenges, Lord Dyson engaged pupils in a lively debate on topics such as the legalisation of assisted suicide, the implications of joint enterprise, and employer accountability. It was fantastic to see pupils actively participating in the debates and raising some insightful, well-though-through arguments.

The evening ended with a Q&A, following which Lord Dyson stayed around to chat with our pupils and answer some of their further questions.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable and informative evening, and a huge privilege to hear Lord Dyson speak and engage with our pupils. A huge thanks to Lord Dyson for taking the time to come and visit KPS.
