Teagan's Fantastic Start to 2020

Teagans Fantastic Start to 2020

It has been a fantastic start to 2020 for our Year 11 fencer, Teagan Williams-Stewart.

On 5th January, Teagan took part in the Udine 2020 World Cup in Venice, alongside the Junior Women's Squad. In a field of ninety-one fencers, Teagan was drawn in a poule of 7 fencers.  Teagan won five of her six fights fights (poule 6), placing her in sixteenth place,  ahead of the direct elimination.  Teagan received a bye into the L64, and then went on to finish in 24th place.

Following this, Teagan fenced as part of the British Fencing Women's foil squad in the XXXV Memorial Vladimir Mazuranic - Women's foil Junior World Cup in Zageb, Croatia, on the 18th January. In a field of 153 fencers, Teagan fenced well during the poules, winning five out of seven fights.  This resulted in Teagan being ranked  first in her poules.  Going into the poules, Teagan had an an indicator of  +18 and ranked 14th/153. In the direct eliminations, Teagan defeated the Canadian 15-12 in the L128  to get into the L64.  She was then up against the Hungarian, whom she defeated 15-3 taking her in to the L32.  Teagan then cam up against the American and in a close fought match Teagan was defeated 14-15.  Teagan finished 22nd a very respectable position for a first year junior. This is Teagan's fourth last thirty two of the new season on the European circuit.

Most recently, Teagan took part in a competition in Bochum, Germany, on 1st February. In a field of 140 fencers, Teagan fenced in a poule of 7 fencers, and won five of her six fights.Ranked 20th after the poules, Teagan moved into the direct eliminations.  Unfortunately Teagan had to fence a fellow GB squad member, whom she defeated 15-1 to move into the last 64. Teagan then faced a fencer from the USA and was beaten 15-9.  Teagan's final ranking was 41st (L64).

The above results have led to Teagan moving up from 4th to 2nd British Junior Women's rankings and has secured her a position on the women's foil squad for the European Championships, which is being held in Croatia at the end of February.  Teagan is also anticipating selection for the World Championships being held in Salt Lake City, USA, which will be announced shortly. We would like to congratulate Teagan on this immense success, as she now has a current world junior ranking of 69th, is 4th in the GBR senior ranking, and 2nd in the GBR junior ranking.
