Michal Valente

Teacher of Chemistry

E:

I am originally from Canada, and have completed a Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Alberta, specializing in Chemistry and Physics. My first degree was a Bachelor of Science, which was also from the University of Alberta. In the UK I have had the pleasure of teaching KS3 and KS4 students Chemistry and Physics from Year 7-11.

I enjoy travelling to new places at every given opportunity. At home my laboratory is the kitchen, where I love to cook and more importantly, to bake. I’m also passionate about badminton, board games and reading.

A skilled science educator challenges students to think about the world from a scientific perspective, inspires insightful questioning, and sparks curiosity in students to seek answers about the world. My objective as a teacher is to motivate my students to think beyond the scope of the classroom. I aim to encourage students to question how things work, why they function in that way, and what the purpose of a given phenomenon is.

As a role model that inspires learning on a daily basis, a teacher has the responsibility to embrace that value and to continually learn and develop. An educator should continually reflect on instructional practices and decisions so that they can be improved. Collaborating with other teachers in the school as well as the community online is an excellent way to gain new insights and ideas that will improve the student learning experience. I plan to always seek out and learn about new technologies that can positively impact the classroom, as well as have an ongoing development of knowledge and practices of the different cultures represented by students in the classroom. I believe that if our goal is to inspire a love for learning in our students, a teacher must also embrace life-long learning.
