David Callard

Teacher of History and Politics

E:

I am a Londoner by birth but spent much of my childhood in Buckinghamshire and attended Burnham Grammar School before studying History and International Politics at the University of Southampton. Here, I achieved my degree, my teaching qualification and a range of sporting experiences and fortunes in Hockey, Cross-Country Running, Fencing and Archery.
I have a long teaching career of over thirty years in a variety of state and private schools and colleges. In recent years, I have taught mainly GCE History and Politics but also, for four years, the International Foundation Year course in Society and Politics. My particular academic interest is in the history and development of political ideas. For the last twelve years, I have been an examiner for the Edexcel examination board in both History and Politics.
Away from work, I follow the fortunes of AFC Wimbledon and Middlesex County Cricket Club, read detective fiction and mysteries, take part in (and create) quizzes and travel to quiet, scenic places away from the crowds.
