Sixth Form

Kensington Park School benefits from having its own dedicated Sixth Form Centre where A-levels and university preparation are taught in a specialist environment.

“The sixth-form provision is exceptional. Students are prepared extremely well for their next steps.” Ofsted 2018

Our Sixth Form Ofsted rating is OUTSTANDING - read the full report here

Situated to the south of Kensington Gardens, a short walk away from the Lower School, KPS sixth form pupils have all the advantages of being part of the wider school – they can choose to take part in the many co-curricular activities available, receive the same level of personal support, and can get involved in mentoring opportunities - yet benefit from lessons taking place on a separate site with specialist A-Level teachers. Our maximum class size is ten and the timetable, which is specifically designed for sixth form teaching, provides a generous time allocation for each subject which is significantly in excess of the standard model used throughout the HMC.

“The quality of teaching is outstanding. Teachers have excellent subject knowledge and very high expectations of students… This ensures that students make exceptional progress.” Ofsted 2018

The Sixth Form Centre creates an independent environment bridging the gap between school and university. Some of our pupils choose to focus entirely on academic studies, whilst others continue to pursue co-curricular interests. This could be performing in a school play at our state-of-the-art Theatre over at the Lower School, equipped with full stage lighting and a sound system; or for those with an entrepreneurial streak, joining Young Enterprise and starting up their own business (read about this year’s Young Enterprise success). Others may simply opt to go for a swim or to the gym between lessons, taking advantage of our link with Imperial College which grants all our sixth form pupils access its sport centre, Ethos.

“Students are offered a wide range of subject options so that their career choices are met extremely well. They are provided with excellent careers advice and guidance, and opportunities for work experience.” Ofsted 2018

University preparation and career guidance is an important focus at the Sixth Form. Alongside university application support to institutions located in both the UK and further afield, KPS holds regular events to prepare pupils for life beyond A-Levels. Recent events include a Careers Day, where guest speakers included a cyber security expert working at the Ministry of Defence and an entrepreneur who is running a successful events company; a lecture from the former Director of the Harvard University International Office; and a talk by the Director of Marketing, Student Recruitment and Admissions at SOAS, part of the University of London.

Sixth form student testimonials

"I really enjoy studying at KPS. I like the atmosphere at school and the way students are treated as young adults. My favourite aspects of KPS are that it is a small school, everyone is friendly, it has great teaching, interesting lessons and very helpful extra-curricular activities."

"The location is amazing."

"I like that the Sixth Form is small, which means that everybody can have one-to-one time with teachers if they are struggling. There is a good learning atmosphere here, which is helped by small class sizes"

"KPS has a unique atmosphere in that freedom and trust is given to students. I take part in lots of the activities on offer - Debate Club, Student Council, Young Enterprise and Careers Society - all of which are helping me with my public speaking, independence and taking responsibility for my learning."
