Tutor System

Pastoral care is central to our ethos and is delivered through experienced tutors and small tutor groups.

"Strong pastoral support for pupils contributes to their exceptional personal development, safety and well-being. "

Ofsted report 2018

It provides the support individuals need as they navigate their way through the curriculum and the co-curricular opportunities on offer. Tutors are key figures in pupils’ lives at KPS and will be parents’ first port of call with the school for all day to day and pastoral matters. Parents will get to know their child’s tutor who will seek to build a meaningful professional relationship with them. Tutors send a weekly email to parents with a brief review of the week.

"Relationships between pupils and their peers, and between pupils and staff, are very positive. There is a strong atmosphere of care and respect. "

Lower School

In years 7 and 8 we provide a horizontal tutor system. Tutors remain with their tutees for the first two years of their time at KPS. This is to allow a strong relationship to develop with both pupil and parents, and to best enable pupils to forge lasting friendships with their peer group.

Across years 9 to 11 we move to a vertical system of tutoring. Tutors who specialise with this age range support and mentor pupils as they begin to make important academic decisions which set the foundations for their future progress at school. These tutors remain with their tutees for three years and guide them through the all-important GCSE years. Alongside this, tutors are able to provide advice on time management as our pupils continue with their co-curricular activities, ensuring they continue to lead a healthy and balanced life both in and out of school.

Sixth Form

In the Sixth Form, there is a vertical tutor system that takes pupils through year 12 to 13 with the continuity of the same pastoral support. The weekly tutor meetings provide ample opportunity for pupils to feel supported as they balance their academic and co-curricular profile, while at the same time beginning to focus on career and university options. Tutors will play a key role in ensuring their tutees are directed to the best careers and university advice. In order to keep parents engaged with the all-important years, tutors will send a brief email on a weekly basis in order to stay in touch.
