With roughly a third of students joining from other schools or from overseas, KPS Sixth Form is a thriving community of boarding and day students who enjoy a unique pre-university experience which prepares them for the diverse, global nature of life beyond school.

Around 30 new students join KPS Sixth Form in Year 12 (16+) alongside those moving up from Year 11 each academic year. New students join the Sixth Form from a wide variety of senior schools in the independent and maintained sectors, as well as from overseas. Many of our Sixth Form students choose to join us as boarders, living and studying in our centrally-located boarding house. Please visit our International Applications and Boarding pages for more information.

Registration for 16+ entry to KPS Sixth Form in September 2024 is now open.

1. Book a Visit

We encourage all prospective Sixth Form students and their families to visit KPS Sixth Form prior to making an application to study with us. For 16+ entry, we recommend visiting when the applicant is in Year 10, or in the Autumn Term of Year 11. We run Sixth Form Open Days during the Autumn and Spring Terms, and also welcome individual visits by appointment.

2. Registration

Applications for entry to KPS Sixth Form are considered on a rolling basis, however, an early application is advised in order to secure the student’s chosen A level subjects. Most offers to join the Sixth Form are issued in the Autumn Term of Year 11 (or the year preceding entry). Students wishing to apply for a scholarship should submit an application by Monday 20th November 2023.

Sixth Form applicants are expected to achieve a minimum of six subjects at Grades 9 to 5 (including Mathematics and English) at GCSE, or international equivalent. Students are expected to have at least Grade 6 at GCSE in the subjects they wish to study at A level. Students wishing to take Further Mathemetics at A level must have a Grade 8 in Mathematics at GCSE.

To register for entry to KPS Sixth Form in September 2024, the following documents should be returned electronically to our Admissions Team at admissions@kps.co.uk:

Students wishing to study Art at A level will also be asked to submit a portfolio of works. A non-refundable registration fee of £250 is payable at this stage.

Students demonstrating exceptional academic ability can apply for a scholarship under the Kensington Scholars programme. Art, Music, Drama, and Sport scholarships are also available at this entry point. For further information, please visit our Scholarships page.

3. Assessment and Interview

All applicants to the Sixth Form who meet our academic entry requirements will be invited to attend an interview with the Head of Sixth Form. The interview is an opportunity for the applicant to discuss their A level subject selection, academic interests, and university and career ambitions, as well as the contribution they hope to make to the life of the Sixth Form.

Applicants who are not sitting Mathematics at GCSE and intend to take Mathematics at A level will be required to sit a Mathematics assessment. Overseas applicants for whom English is not a first language will additionally be asked to sit an English language assessment if they do not already have an appropriate English language certificate.  For those applying from overseas who are unable to travel to KPS, we can arrange for the interview and assessments to take place remotely, either at the applicant’s current school or at a British Council office. Please visit our International Applications page for further information.

4. Offer and Acceptance

In making an offer to join the Sixth Form, we take into account a student’s performance at interview, predicted GCSE grades (or international equivalent), school reports, as well as the results of any assessments undertaken.

We aim to inform families of the outcome of their application to KPS Sixth Form within seven days of interview. The deadline for acceptance of offers for entry in September 2024 will be communicated in the student’s offer letter. On acceptance of a student’s place, an acceptance deposit is payable and we will request a reference from the student’s current school.
