Superb results for our Year 12 students in the RSC Chemistry Olympiad…
This year saw all students that entered the RSC Chemistry Olympiad 2021 achieve a medal- a fantastic achievement for students in Year 12 who have only studied for one term in Chemistry at advanced level.

The RSC Olympiad is primarily suited to Year 13 students who have studied nearly all of their A Level course prior to sitting the paper. For students in Year 12 to achieve medal-winning scores is remarkable! Even more remarkable was that Yaren, our highest scorer, only narrowly missed out on the Gold medal. Yaren hopes to read medicine at university at the end of her A Level courses.
Head of Chemistry, Mr. Simon Clarke, has previously coached a number of talented students through preparation for the first round of the competition and whilst in the chemistry department at St Paul’s School he coached two boys who went on to represent Great Britain in the Chemistry Olympiad finals held in Budapest.

Chemistry is a demanding yet very popular A Level choice here at KPS Sixth Form. With a number of our students looking to read medicine at university as well as physical science courses, the Chemistry Olympiad paper is a great challenge for them and really helps to build confidence when describing their thinking process through unfamiliar problems.
The paper is a brilliant way to help prepare our science students for tackling and describing their way through the unknown: a hugely important skill for those looking to pursue science at university.
Next Stop, Cambridge!
There is to be no relenting now for Yaren, Dario and Kiki (photographed). Our Year 12 scientists are now in training for the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge paper in June! This is a paper targeted specifically at the Year 12 Chemistry students.
The top prize available is a Roentgenium Award as well as an invitation to the final stages of the competition, held each year at the University of Cambridge.
