In the last week of term, our Year 10 and Year 12 students visited Bletchley Park — the historic site, which was a hub of intelligence during the Second World War and where British codebreakers cracked the Enigma code.
KPS students took part in ‘The Story of Enigma’ workshop, where they explored the complexity of the Enigma machine, why it was considered unbreakable, and how it became one of the most remarkable achievements in mathematical logic and engineering. They also had the opportunity to experiment with Morse code, and better understand wartime communication methods.
A guided tour brought the experience to life, taking students through the very huts where Alan Turing and his fellow codebreakers worked, giving a powerful insight into the mathematical brilliance and historical significance of the site.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and enriching experience for all involved, combining history, maths, and computing, in equal measure.
