Boarding at KPS is available from Year 9 (13+), giving students the opportunity to experience living and studying in London within a safe and carefully managed environment.
We are fortunate to have one of the best boarding houses in London, located just a 15 minute walk away from the Sixth Form, and a short tube journey from the Senior School. Our boarding house is overseen by a dedicated team of house parents who act in loco parentis and carefully monitor students’ health, happiness, and wellbeing as they live and study away from home. We recognise that for many of our students this may be their first time living away from their families, and moving to a big city can be daunting. Each boarder has a designated tutor within the boarding house who provides one-to-one support and guidance, and works closely with the academic team and tutors in school to ensure pupils are on track to achieve their goals. Each boarder is also part of a vertical, mixed tutor group, which allows them to build connections and friendships with students from across different year groups and develop a firm sense of belonging.
Students in Years 9 to 11 can select from twin or triple rooms, with single rooms available for our Sixth Form students. All our rooms include en-suite bathroom facilities, as well as a small kitchenette which supplements our outstanding catering provision. Boarders enjoy a hot breakfast and dinner in the boarding house during weekdays, while lunch is provided in school. At the weekend, brunch and dinner is served in the boarding house. The dining room and common area provide space for students to eat, relax, and study together or independently. A termly programme of evening and weekend activities provides further opportunities for students to socialise and build lasting friendships with fellow boarders.
Daily registrations, house meetings, and strict curfews ensure that students have the right balance between managing their studies, enjoying London, and staying safe, while Prep, which takes place from Sunday to Thursday, provides structured time for academic study.
Our on-site School Nurse, who runs a morning surgery in the boarding house each weekday, provides physical, emotional, and mental health care and advice to all boarders, and helps them to maintain a healthy lifestyle away from home. The School Nurse develops and implements medical care plans for those students with medical needs, and supports all students with registration at the local GP.
Recreational Activities for Boarders
Princess Beatrice House is located in the prestigious Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, offering students a safe, welcoming, and dynamic environment on the doorstep of London’s cultural landmarks.
Boarders enjoy a rich programme of activities and cultural outings including seeing West End theatre shows, and visiting the iconic Big Ben, the London Eye and the Tower of London, museums and galleries, along with sporting activities such as padel. When the weather is fine, we visit some of the many beautiful parks in the city. A boarding favourite is the boat trip down the Thames to Greenwich Park. In-house events such as games nights, chess tournaments, cookery demonstrations and film evenings foster a strong sense of community and cater to all tastes and interests.
We also celebrate global festivals throughout the year, such as Lunar New Year, Halloween, Christmas, Nowruz and more. Our talented Head Chef invites students to assist her in preparing meals of all cultures and add to their authenticity.
